NOT THE FIRST TIME: Hart School District Shooting Prevented Before With Help From Using WeTip

1 min read

Hart School District threat prevented before with help from using WeTip, a platform and website Sean Weber built.

Hart School District and other Santa Clarita school districts already use WeTip as their anonymous tip program through their JPA. During Joe Messina’s recent 2018 campaign for School Board, he referenced WeTip for attributing to the prevention of a major incident, that he could not talk about, and being used throughout the local schools.

On June 16, 2017, WeTip, one of the largest national anonymous tip programs, posted WeTip Helps Prevent School Shooting in the Santa Clarita Valley!” The article states:

WeTip received an anonymous tip that prevented a school shooting at one of the schools in the Santa Clarita Valley (SCV). If you see or suspect a crime remember and anonymous tip hotline: 1-800-78-CRIME

Know About School Tragedies Before They Occur

Students often know about tragedies before they occur. We know that targeted school shootings rarely happen without some sort of warning sign. The U.S. Secret Service conducted the Safe School Initiative, a study of school shootings and other school-based attacks finding that usually “at least one other person had some type of knowledge of the attacker’s plan. Most of those individuals who had prior knowledge were peers of the perpetrators. This suggests that peers often know about potential threats to their safety and risky behaviors of their friends and classmates, and often fail to alert authorities about their suspicions, preventing violence before it occurs”
